For the last few days Willy has been saying "sure thing!" at the funniest times, just out of the blue. I am not sure where he picked it up, but he is definitely a boy who listens and repeats little things he hears. This particular phrase is just so cheerful and helpful-sounding, and it makes me smile every time. Sometimes he'll say it under his breath when I ask him to do something, and sometimes he'll say it in a silly Goofy voice--"sure thing, Uncle Ryrie!" William is definitely the class clown around here. Today the boys had a little girl-friend over and she was claiming that something has to be Really Really funny for her to laugh at it, and so William immediately took that on as a personal challenge. He always makes her laugh a lot.
Owen's latest phrase is "I'm bored." Apparently he said this at a friend's house today, and so she gave him a snack. It's true, when they say that they are usually hungry. For Joy School this month, Owen is learning about goals. His goal is going to be writing his name. He has a hard time with the "w" and the "e." We are also supposed to encourage cleaning up and keeping things "in order" by using the Gunny Bag. This is a garbage bag in our family, that lives under the computer desk during the day and comes out at night. The boys sure race around to clean up before Gunny comes to "eat" any left out toys. I give them some time to clean, then turn on the song (its on the joy school cd) and that wakes Gunny up. The first night, Ryrie had some trouble allowing Gunny to eat a few things, but I promised him that Gunny would cough them up the next day and give them a second chance. Tonight Gunny had to cry because there were no toys to eat.
Today Tommy was standing at the top of our little stairs (five stairs) being extremely cute and James and I were just staring at him, overcome by his cuteness, and then he said very clearly, "what?" Like, what are you staring at? It was funny and added to the Cute by about 100 points. He loves to turn things on and off--the lights (while we are practicing or reading with the boys), the fireplace, the fan in his room, the washing machine, the dishwasher, etc.
Yesterday was a really warm, beautiful day, and today was cold again. William loved telling me how yesterday they found a puddle and threw snow in it to make slush, but today it was all ice! I told him how excited I was when the water in my waterbottle was sloshing around yesterday, and that today it was frozen again. Love those little science moments, eh?
So, this makes me laugh, because probably one of the things my mom said to me MOST during my formative years, I mean like 3 times a day, was:
ReplyDelete"You're not hungry, you're just bored."
So my 7-year-old self is wildly jealous of your 7-year-olds who get to have a snack EVEN WHEN THEY ARE JUST BORED! Lucky ducks. :)
And also, I LOVE the gunny bag! Reminds me of the gunnywolf (hunker-cha, hunker-cha). That's such a good idea, we will definitely have to implement that one.
ha! Come on over and I'll feed ya! ;-) Yes, the gunny bag is a wonderful thing...
