Sugar and Spice

I just wanted to mention a few sweet things the boys have said in the last couple of days. On Monday night I was gone for the bedtime routine, and the next morning at breakfast William said, "I cried last night in my bed because I missed Mom. I cried really quietly so no one could hear me, but every time I thought about Mom it made me cry again." Now who do you think wanted to cry when they heard that! Ryrie and Owen were getting dressed and coming downstairs to go out, and they both came down so happily--Owen first and then Ryrie. Owen announced that he "beat" Ryrie, and then Ryrie quietly confided in me that he "fell down" a few times so that Owen would beat him, and that he went a little slower on purpose so Owen could win. He had a huge grin on his face, and it sure put one on mine too! I am amazed at their goodness and purity. When Ryrie was sick (Monday morning) and didn't go to school, it was neat to see him anticipate William coming home for lunch. When Will came in, they just started talking to each other a mile a minute. William asked a lot of questions to Owen about his swimming lessons (what the boy:girl ratio was, was the water warm, were there lots of people, did he have fun?) and Ryrie asked William about school. Then Will said, "Are you feeling better enough to come back to school?" When Ryrie said yes, Will smiled and said, "Oh good!" I love that they are friends as well as brothers.

  1. Those smart, cute boys! They are growing so fast. Sounds like they are still just as sweet as ever and we need them around here to share some love. I hope you guys make it down here next month. . .Give them a hug from us.

  2. Oh! that is adorable. I LOVE Ryrie letting Owen "beat" him. I think it is so cute to see your kids learning to feel protective of their little siblings, and sometimes exchanging a secret little glance with you while they do it. Abe will do that when Sebby says something cute---just look over at me with this conspiratorial, "Don't we adults think the children are funny" look. I love it. What good boys you have!

  3. thanks! yes, I love to share those moments with the older ones, when we both think the younger ones are cute or funny or whatever. :-)

  4. That is so sweet! I really hope my boys will always be best buds like that. I love how they were catching up with each other, talking a mile a minute.
Also the story about how William cried himself to sleep melted my heart!

  5. That really was so so sweet! I can just imagine the setting in the cozy Raymond town. You should write a book instead of Little Women... Little Men. ( probably would need a different title :)
