The twins birthday yesterday was a grand event. I think I can say it was a grand success too because I did hear William say, "This is my best birthday ever!" afterwards. The boys certainly started it out early--4:30, to be precise. They kept running up and down the stairs to see what time it was and therefore woke their light-sleeping mother up early as well. I started the day out a bit grumpy. However, the early hour didn't seem to affect them much at all throughout the day. It must be because they are older now.
The food requested for the day was created--bacon, hashbrowns, and pancakes for breakfast; "store-bought" macaroni and cheese with hot dogs in it for lunch; and pizza and rootbeer floats for dinner along with chocolate cake. Wow, I hope they don't have a heart attack before their next birthday! They opened family presents at breakfast, and then we spent a good portion of the day raking and bagging leaves. These came in handy when we created the "rink" for our street hockey game with all the friends.
William and Ryrie each invited 4 friends and they each captained a team. Owen was the scorekeeper, and Tommy was the referee along with James. Georgie and I were spectators and tried to take some pictures.
The game:
The cake was a grand success, and the group of kids was a lot of fun. We walked over to the theater and watched a movie after dinner. The movie was not the greatest, but the company was fun.
Opening the gifts--these Oilers jerseys from Asher were especially cool:
We gave the party attenders hockey cards, a water bottle that they decorated, a mini stick and puck, and some bubble gum. The party bags didn't really make it home in one piece, as they all wanted to open their cards and see what everyone else had!
The Scorekeeper:
Tommy and Owen were good sports at the party, and on the way to the theater Tommy confided that he can't wait until "there's just one special birthday boy--me!" The birthday season is upon us, all right.
"I'm the Reffer!"
Georgie enjoying his cake and ice cream:
What cute boys! :) And I would just like to take this opportunity to comment on your AMAZING hockey Oilers cake! Holy cow! Dripping letters and everything, complete with players and a net! I'm going to have to start working on my cake decorating skills if my kids are going to want something this intense...haha yet another reason for you to move down here and teach me, eh??
ReplyDeleteSweet boys! Can't believe it's been 10 years since I got that surprise call from you announcing them! I am impressed with your darling and FUN birthday party planning! It seems like just the right amount of fun/exciting/laid-back. Good work. I love Tommy's sweet conversations, too. He is almost . . . 4, or 5? I don't know why I can't keep his age straight. Also, you are moving?! Where?
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Rach!
