Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm thankful for these people plus the photographer, of course.

Today is Canadian Thanksgiving. It's good Thanksgiving comes earlier here--the leaves are still on the trees (mostly) and the harvest is coming in from the garden (no killing frost yet), and the weather is pretty mild. We celebrated the day yesterday with some friends. Owen, Tommy and I made little turkeys out of paper, pine cones, and leaves for the place settings. They turned out very cute.

I especially like the turkey Owen made for James and I--they are lovebirds and go together. The one with the curly eyelashes is supposed to be mine.

Speaking of turkey, I cooked my first turkey unaided by any professionals. It turned out really well! I almost fainted when I first took it out of the plastic packaging and pulled the neck out of the body cavity. That was my only rough moment. James told the boys (who were gathered around going, "sick! gross!") that they should give me some space, and that I was "becoming a true woman." At least I didn't have to chop that neck off and pluck and gut the bird! I even made home made stuffing (first time) and stuffed it in the turkey. I was proud of myself. We had a lot of leftovers which will make some yummy soups/sandwiches/casseroles in the future weeks.
The boys are thankful for the following things--
Will: food, water, shelter, clothes, transportation
Ryrie: sports, friends, family, church, temple
Owen: our houses, our world, grandmas and grandpas (Tommy asked for clarification if that also included nanas, and yes, it does), electric things, and instruments.
Thomas: "mine mom," Georgie, animals, Owen, "my best best best fwend in the whole wide world, Joshie," Utah.
Amen and Amen.

  3. I want to have Thanksgiving at your house- I actually want to have dinner at your house everyday. I've been dreaming about the food you made us ever since. This was my first year cooking a turkey too but I was a sissy and got a turkey breast roast. Have you heard about these?? All white meat with no scary guts or bones. I like how you listed what each kid is thankful for, and I like everything about your sweet family!!!

  5. Wonderful! I agree - feels like being there at that happy table. I have fond memories of 2 years ago for thanksgiving around your table. Thank you for sharing what each were so thoughtfully thankful for. You certainly create a loving environment for them to be able to express themselves and not be critized. I'm trying to say: what a loving, happy confident, creative etc etc etc HOME. Love you all!`
