Colors of Summer

Today I was sitting with some friends at a picnic table at the playground near our house and Owen came to sit with me for a minute. He noticed a leaf fall off the tree near us and said, "Mom, I guess it's fall time now!" I love that book called Frederick about a mouse who tells stories all winter long about the other seasons of the year and helps the other mice make it through the dreary winter by remembering those wonderful times. I think bottles of fruit and smoothies made with frozen fruit we've picked have a way of doing that for me during the looong Canadian winter. This year we picked strawberries two different times and I bottled and froze lots of tomatoes and peaches--with only a few casualties during the processing! Now we'll see if we can make them last.

  2. You are a real woman now, Rach. Those jars are beautiful. I still haven't reached this milestone, and I am VERY impressed. (Stewed tomatoes, even!)
