Georgie Update

George gets his own blog today.  He's been up to all sorts of shenanigans that must be documented for his future enjoyment.
He has these "great ideas."  His latest was that he and Dad could make a HAND that would come down from the ceiling and give him food and things.  James was a bit baffled about this project, but after trying to make him forget for about a week, he good-naturedly attempted to make this.  George figured that if you cut out two hands from paper (he traced his own hands) and then glued them together, they would immediately do anything he wanted them to do.  In this case, present him with any food he wanted while he lay in his bed.  When it didn't quite work out the way he envisioned, he suggested that maybe the HAND needed batteries?

George has been a delight this far in the Christmas season.  He was telling everyone he met the day that we were putting up decorations.  He loved getting out the old familiar decor, including the white reindeer that he loves now as much as Tommy ever did.  He loves to turn on the lights of the glowing nativity set we have and get the fireplace going.  He knows his way around the house and what makes him happy and comfy.  He is excited about the elf that brings candy each day of December leading up to Christmas and he even gets into our little fake Elf-on-the-Shelf (dollar store version.)  He's been making cards for everyone he can think of.  He picked Owen's name for his secret brother, and he's been trying to do secret service for him without giving himself away--which he has not managed to do.  He was so excited to find some popcorn on his bed from his secret brother.  He came running downstairs with it, yelling, "Mom!  I got served!"

The reindeer are back!

I love watching George in his own little make-believe world

George attended many of his big brothers' Christmas concerts this year.  This one was at the State Legislature.

He was thrilled to perform with the rest of the kindergarten classes in his very own Christmas concert.  He looked so handsome in his little bow tie (yes, it usually is hanging on by a thread) and white shirt.  He sang all the words and did the cute actions along with everyone else.

George has become the household DJ.  He figured out how to put cds into the blue ray machine, so now we keep all of our Christmas cds nearby and he makes sure there is always one in there.  He loves to turn it up really loud and dance and sing along to it, but he can usually be persuaded to turn down the volume if need be.  He is the same in the car, sometimes becoming extremely insistent that we turn on the music before I have managed to navigate the backing up of the car from the garage.  His favourite cd is the one that is stuck in the car--he loves ghostbusters and star wars.  However, we don't all have the patience for never-ending repeats of these, so he makes sure that he keeps some other cds stockpiled in the car.  One that he enjoys has the song "Glorious" on it.  He doesn't appreciate it when I want to hear the classical music station on the radio.  However, we have come to an agreement that we will take turns.  He usually "remembers" that it is his turn.
George loves his Daddy!

The other day George got it into his head to give everyone in his class a rock.  He went out in the snow and was digging around for a bunch of rocks.  He is full of ideas like this.  The other day the missionaries challenged us to give away Books of Mormon.  George didn't forget--in fact the next day he wrote to his friend in one of the books and ran it right over to her house.  He keeps busy with his little art cupboard every day--sometimes he's in the mood to paint, or draw, or write, or do play dough.  The other day he pulled out a How-To-Draw-Dinosaurs book and got right down to it.  He is not intimidated or lacking in confidence by any means.  He really likes dot-to-dots and copying out letters from books.
This was a birthday card that George put together for his friend Drake.
He's still trying to figure out time.  "Mom, if I count to twenty, is that twenty minutes?  Or do I count to sixty?"
When driving to the church for tithing settlement, George said that he learned that in primary.  I asked what he had learned.  "I don't remember!"  Then he started singing We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and he sang, "Good tithings we bring..." When we got there and the bishop started reviewing it all with the boys he said in my ear, "I learned about that 1/10th thing in class, I remember now."

This busy guy gets pretty worn out by the end of each day!  Tommy complains that he tries to talk to George at night before bed but George falls asleep in about 2 minutes.

hanging out with Dad after church.
He and I do lots together.  The other day he helped me make chicken noodle soup.  He loves rolling out the noodles and also loves dropping them into the pot when its time.  This time he was also around for the deboning of the chicken.  He looked at it, then kind of laughed and asked, "Is that the chicken?  Is that its neck?  Arms, etc..."  Then he patted it fondly and said, "Thank you chicken!"  I half-expected him to pray over it in the Native American tradition.
He and I read through some of his old journal entries the other day and he got such a kick out of it.  He laughed and laughed as I read to him some of his antics.  He loves any stories where he is the star, for sure.

Georgie still loves playing with the cars.  He recently rediscovered the blue tracks we bought for Christmas a few years ago.  He loves getting out the cars and lining them up in various patterns and assortments.  He always asks first, "Mom, can I dump out ALL of the cars?"
The other day I asked George, "How was your day at school?"  He responded, "Oh, I just had a random day."  ;-)
"Ouch!  I just cracked my ankles!" (Knuckles)
Sitting next to my feet in sacrament meeting, he picked at my nylons in fascination.  "How did you get that on you mom?"  (I could see the wheels turning in his head--"is it skin," he was wondering?)
I love picking George up from school.  His whole face lights up and sometimes he even runs to me for a full-blown hug.  What a boy!

At our neighborhood outdoor rink--free of charge and it has these pushers!  George skated for two hours in a row with only two five-minute breaks!

Sledding with his big brothers.  He has no fear on this steep hill!

  2. Rach. Seriously your description of THE HANDS made me laugh harder than anything I've read in a long time. What a character! I wish I knew him better. What a good dad James is for assisting in such projects! :) Also laughed like crazy over "expected him to pray over it in the Native American tradition"…Hahahaha. Your chicken noodle soup sounds amazing. Homemade noodles?? Recipe please. Yum.

Hope your Christmas was great. Miss you.
