Peace Like a River (or Lake)

I love the song that the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings--I've got Peace Like a River.  Basically the words are:  "I've got peace like a river, I've got faith like a river, I've got hope like a river" repeated over and over.  There is something so peaceful about flowing water and so hopeful.  We've been enjoying this beautiful Indian Summer and yesterday got to go to Waterton.  It was so still there and peace just filled my soul.  It is so nice to take a break from life and spend it in Nature.  God really intended to bless us in every way when He created this beautiful world.  And it certainly was even more enjoyable with this bunch to share it with:

First Rest Stop of Many

At the top

We loved finding little patches of bright leaves--this one was so pretty reflected in the lake

They were so proud that they both jumped on  to this island

The jump

Every time G squatted to pick up a rock or stick in the lake, his bum touched the water.  Then the bottoms of the shorts got wet too--this was too much for him.

Cameron Falls--the famous picture-taking spot

The Littlest Hiker--did awesome!  Just kept changing his mind about being carried or walking by himself

Some highlights of the day for me:  Watching Tommy charge up the hill with his backpack on, Walking with George and James and watching G swing his stick at everything, Soaking my feet in the lake and feeling the warm sun, Climbing up to the boys' hideout and looking out over the whole lake, Napping in the car in the Bear's Hump parking lot--with loud boys in the backseat--I was oblivious, Playing in a little "house" made of logs with G and T, watching T and O strip down and wade into the water, watching W and R lead the way in their game on the wharves in spite of the Chinese lady who was dancing in full uniform, singing "Catalina Magdalena Hootensteiner Waterleiner" with O and T and making up some funny verses, singing "Achin' Drum" and listening to T and O laugh and laugh, Holding James' hand on the drive home, staring at the LEAVES everywhere and trying to memorize the beautiful sight.  Fall is such a favorite time for me.  :-)

  3. I feel just the same when I am in the mountains. Like I could just drink up the peace; I wish I could store it up for all my stressed-out moments later! :) I think it's so restorative to spend quiet time in nature. I love your catalog of all the little moments that make up a day like that. So beautiful.
