Cast All Gone!

Georgie was a real trooper this month with his cast. The first week he struggled the most with pain and frustration in moving around, but then he seemed to get used to it. He crawled around for awhile, getting used to that mode of transportation again, and you could hear him dragging himself across the house. Then when he could bear a bit of weight on it he would pull himself to stand on things--just like when he first learned to walk. Then he started stumping along, swinging his leg from the hip, as the cast went to mid-thigh. He did such a great job and never complained after that! He got the cast off yesterday which was kind of frightening for him. The nurse cut it off, then left to get the doctor. When she came back in, he started crying again and shaking his finger at her to leave. She did so! It was very sweet. He lost quite a bit of muscle mass in his right leg--the cast was starting to slip around and he could put his little hand down in it by the time we got it off--so he is still kind of limping and favoring it a bit, but overall he seems to be healed and we are all really grateful to get that cast OFF! I gave him a bath yesterday to celebrate the end of that bath-less month.
