Apples and Onions

James and I heard a talk recently about talking with our kids about the good/bad things that happen each day by referring them to apples and onions. We've tried it a bit and it's pretty fun. So I thought I'd post about an onion and an apple in my recent life.
I'll start with the onion. See this beautiful bread dough?

It was beautiful. Perfect in every way. Elastic, not too sticky, not too dry, lovely. I left it to rise and came back an hour later. It had not moved an inch. Not a centimeter! What could have happened to it? I could not understand it. It came to me about 20 minutes later as I was putting Georgie to bed. I forgot the YEAST! Haha.

Now here's my apple. Owen and Tommy recently discovered William and Ryrie's capes that Nana made them a few years back. They started begging for capes of their own, and I, like a slacker, thought I could wait until we were in Provo and ask Nana to do it, but then I took charge of my life and said, "okay, let's make capes!" so we found some scraps and did it in a morning. Not as hard and scary as I thought it would be, and the rewards have been great. I love to see the four boys dashing about in their capes.

  1. Those are some great capes, Rach! Even with sore hands--I hope you really are feeling better. Sure love those boys and can't wait for the kids to play this summer. I love reading about what everyone has been up to and highlights. Love you guys.
