In the eyes of my two preschoolers, each minute holds an opportunity for a new and exciting adventure. Just one small sample, which occurred today:
"Hey boys, I'm just jumping in the shower! Please finish eating breakfast and then get your clothes from upstairs and I'll give you a bath right when I'm done!" (I then hid the baby in my room for his "morning nap" and shut the door tight, which I knew would prevent Thomas access to the baby. Note that I didn't mention the baby to them in hopes that they would forget about his existence for five minutes while I was in the shower).
Just as I was stepping into the shower, I heard over the roar of the water, this delightful news--
"Mom!! Tommy just woke up George!" (scream scream from George, Cry cry from Tommy).
"Grrr...not without your help, though, I'm sure" (muttered to self.) I won't repeat what else I thought to myself.
I enjoyed my shower but also had a strong urge to launch my children to the farthest reaches of the universe or at least let them spend some time away from me in their room. They were saved by a phone call from a friend for a play date.
I learned my lesson for the umpteenth time today: only shower when another adult is present. Even if it is only every 4th day.
I don't know how many times I've wished for the ability to open a portal to some kind of time-space limbo; the perfect place to send your kids while trying to accomplish something.
ReplyDeleteno kidding- it seems a little pathetic that a 5 minute shower is considered a luxury. Oh well. who needs to smell nice, eh?
