Entrepreneuring

We all want to make some money around here.  James has had a long-standing dream (at least since the twins were small, maybe before that even) of starting a business with his boys.  That dream is taking shape right now, in the form of a bike stands business.  Last year, James figured out how to make some portable stands to keep our pile of bikes upright, and I have been blessing his name ever since!  We were even able to bring the bikes into the house and store them without taking up much extra space all winter long!  Because it worked so well for us, he approached the boys about making and selling them, and they agreed!  William took a class where he learned how to make a website, and he made one for the business.  They salvaged old wood and mis-tinted paint, so its also an environmental business.  :-)

To be honest, the workers haven't always been 100% cheerful, but when it comes right down to it, they help out and they figure as far as summer jobs go, this ain't that bad!

Not to be outdone, the little kids have also been seeking money-making ventures.  The lemonade stand of yester-year has been pulled out yet again.  George has had success as a door-to-door salesman, asking people, "Will you come to our lemonade stand?"  He went around our entire culdesac and then started on the neighboring one.
Another weekend, we realized there was a garage sale in our neighborhood, so the boys set up camp on the front sidewalk and flagged down people coming to the garage sale!  I think they earned about $20 that day!
The following week when George asked for help setting up the stand, James discouraged him as he explained, "We don't want to take all our neighbors' money from them!"  George countered with, "Oh, I know!  I can give them back their money, and then they can buy more! Or, I can just give it to them for free!"
One day we added gingersnaps for sale as well.

Georgie's latest idea for a business is washing cars.  Yesterday he busied himself with a cloth and soapy water (I found a sloshy trail through the garage) washing the tires and hubcaps of our vehicles.  Afterwards, he kept asking James and I to "take me to wash some cars, please."  I finally asked him what he meant, and realized he wanted to earn money doing other people's cars.  He figured he could just wash them and then ask for money.  Hmmm, maybe we are going a little too far with this entrepreneuring!
