James and I have been busy making healthy smoothies (and he made delicious fresh salsa today) to counterbalance the influx of refined sugar in our house since the candy train came to town. What could be better than a candy train, you ask? Direct your eyes below and allow your mouth to water:
Another tradition we've always had but have never done this close to Christmas time is to sleep "under" the Christmas tree one night in December. The term "under" is used loosely as our family continues to grow and beds do as well. Last night was the appointed night and we read Christmas stories and had a fun cozy camp out. A little stiff this morning, but otherwise, happy to continue a fun tradition:
I had so many dreams that I was ready to have the baby--probably a bit of indigestion and campout-itis, but the baby is still in and growing, and I am delighted to be in my final month!!
We failed to put out a Christmas letter this year, which hopefully won't become a tradition, and we are also really simplifying a lot this year which has been a great tradition. Merry Christmas! Hope you all enjoy your own traditions this year and have a relaxing and peaceful Christmas.
What on earth??!?! Those trains are _awesome!!_ (Been reading too much R.L. Stine, as you can see) I'll have to get more detail from you, but I can't believe how cool those look! We've never done gingerbread houses, but you're right, these look way better.
ReplyDeleteAnd your fruit looks so yummy too! I liked that smoothie site you sent me---some great ideas. We already do some of the things she suggests. We are having fresh salsa and guacamole tonight, and tacos (beans, cheese, corn, your homemade Ranch---yum!). I'm getting hungry already!
Wish you could have joined us for butterscotch rolls this morning. But looks like you are having lots of fun! It's fun being just on your own, isn't it? I think that's my favorite.
Merry Christmas, my dear!
WV: Nilion. I hope your kids give you a nilion kisses tomorrow. :)
What fun traditions. . . BUt we are hoping this doesn't become a tradition to not come to Provo:) We've sure missed you guys in the month since we last saw you. I wouldn't mind trying some of that amazing smoothie--far too much Christmas candy around here. Merry Christmas you guys, we love you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Rach! It is great to have this little window into a world we love so much!! Dad
ReplyDeleteThat looks so fun. And so exciting that your baby is due in a month. -Aud
ReplyDeleteOh how FUN! The traditions are all so great! I didn't know about 'sleeping under the tree'. The ingredients to make a train sure got their creative juices flowing! We got a kick out of reading the depictions. LOVE your family!
ReplyDeleteRachael, you look amazing! I can't believe you only have a month left. I remember at a family gathering in February one year when I was pregnant I commented on how big I felt and one of my sister in-laws said "Well your due in March right?" Um, no. May.
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas sounds great. I love traditions. We have yet to be completely alone for Christmas. Even this year Leo's parents came to join us. When I was growing up I remember liking the Christmas's we stayed at home a lot. (Only my immediate family lives in Utah.)
love you,
Amber
